Leeds United: Neil Warnock shares ‘massive’ Championship claim live on talkSPORT

Neil Warnock was stunned by Leeds United, Leicester and Ipswich all winning over the Easter period amid high praise for Kieran McKenna’s side in their title charge.

The legendary boss insisted Leicester should still be favourites for promotion, but did not rule out Leeds or Ipswich as he gushed over the excitement of the Championship.

Warnock was quick to heap praise on Ipswich for keeping up with Leeds and Leicester who he says are “massive” football clubs with massive squads and budgets compared to the Tractor Boys.

Speaking live on talkSPORT [08:42], Warnock shared: “The excitement we’ve had from the Championship over the Easter period has been unbelievable.

“They’ve all come through the tests, the top three, but how they got through it when you look at some of the games.

“Leicester should go up, but when you look at it now, Ipswich have always been the ones that are given no chance by the pundits. McKenna has done a fantastic job.

“I know they’ve spent a bit of money, but in comparison with Leeds and Leicester, they’re massive clubs with massive squads.”

Championship promotion race tightly contested at the top

With just six games left to play, two points separate the top three teams and it remains up in the air which one will be forced to drop into the playoffs and risk suffering a blow to their hopes of Premier League promotion.

Leicester’s game in hand on both Leeds and Ipswich could see them shoot back into first place with a win, which would see Leeds drop out of the automatic promotion places and put at risk of facing the playoffs – a fate nobody at the club would want to risk.

After all three sides won again over the long weekend, the pace they have set has been incredible at the top, and whichever one of the three teams drops out of the automatic promotion places can consider themselves extremely unlucky.

Warnock is not the first to speak out in praise of Ipswich, who have proved themselves as the surprise package in the promotion race, but Leeds will be hoping their financial might can give them the edge over their opponents.
