Leeds United negotiate until ‘the bitter end’ to sign Weston McKennie as add-ons included in £22m bid
Leeds United will negotiate until the “bitter end” to finalise a deal for Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
It’s believed Juventus value the 24-year-old American midfielder at £26million, although Leeds have not reached the Seria A club’s demands. However, it’s understood Leeds are willing to spend £22million on the midfielder, including add-ons.
Gazzetta dello Sport suggest (pg. 17, 26 January) the deal is a “win-win” due to Leeds satisfying the demands of Jesse Marsch and Juventus raising some much-needed funds.

Nervy
This deal appeared to be very much in the pipeline up until Thursday morning (26 January). It looked like Leeds were comfortable with the valuation of the midfielder and that a deal was close to being finalised. However, it looks as if those reports were potentially quite a way off.
It’s good to hear that Leeds are still actively pursuing a move for the USA international, but time is now not on their side. There are less than five days left in the window, and every small decision can have big ramifications. Juventus could still be looking to offload the midfielder’s wages, and if the Yorkshire side can cover a portion of his salary, it’s like an agreement could well be struck.

Marsch will be desperate to add his compatriot to his midfield options – and the prospect of an all-American midfield pairing of McKennie and Tyler Adams is an exciting prospect. Let’s hope this is a deal which can get across the finish line.
