Leeds United must solve striker conundrum ahead of Crystal Palace fixture – David Prutton

Sky Sports pundit David Prutton believes there is no reason why Leeds United could not take all three points from their next Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace.

The Whites are going through a bit of a rough patch where they are winless in the last four matches as they travel to Selhurst Park to face the Eagles on Sunday, 09 October.

Prutton, in a recent column for the Yorkshire Evening Post, stated that Leeds have a striker conundrum to solve for the match.

“We’ll have to wait and see if Patrick Bamford starts,” he wrote. “And there remains a big debate over who fills in for Patrick when he doesn’t start.

“Rodrigo bobbing in and out and the pressure on a record signing to deliver. It’s almost like first refusal with Rodrigo off the back of Patrick not being fit and that’s how it feels.

“But there’s Joe Gelhardt too plus Willy Gnonto now and the younger players coming through too and it’s all a bit of a head-scratcher.

“It’s a conundrum that I don’t envy for Jesse but it’s one that Jesse gets paid handsomely for and he is the manager of this very good football club to answer these questions. [But] I don’t see why Leeds can’t go down to Selhurst Park and take all three points, absolutely not.”

Important fixture

Leeds started the season better than many anticipated they would as they went on secure seven points from the first three matches, including a big 3-0 win against Chelsea while playing at home on 22 August.

However, that form proved to be short-lived as the Whites only managed to register two points from the next matches, which pushed the side to 12th in the league table with nine points from the first seven matches.

Looking at how Leeds’ last season went where they narrowly managed to escape relegation, it is important Jesse Marsch’s men will return to winning ways, sooner than later.

The overall head-to-head record in the Premier League between the sides will give the Whites fans a lot of hope going into Sunday’s fixture where their team has won on five occasions in just 10 meetings and suffered three defeats whereas two matches ended in a stalemate.

The last time when both teams faced at the venue, the game ended with a 0-0 draw in April earlier this year.
