Diogo Monteiro spotted at airport as Leeds United transfer may be on verge
Servette defender Diogo Monteiro has been seemingly spotted at an airport on 23 January after Leeds United were said to have a bid lined up for the youngster by The Athletic. (18 January)
The Whites have had a successful winter transfer window so far, completing the signings of Max Wober and Georginio Rutter this month.
Now, 17-year-old Monterio, who is currently playing in the Swiss top flight, could be set for an Elland Road switch if this latest picture is anything to go by.
Journalist Daniel Visentini has described a deal between the starlet and Leeds United as “very possible”, adding fuel to the fire that a move could be just inches away.
It’s unclear what role Monterio would play in Jesse Marsch’s team but it’s likely he would join up with the U21s squad first.
In Orta we trust.
Victor Orta has had a fantastic eye for spotting emerging talent in Europe and it seems he has lined up Monterio to come in and bolster Leeds’ youth ranks too.
There is arguably no better place for the 17-year-old to learn and improve his craft than Thorp Arch and he’ll be given every opportunity to showcase his talents in the Premier League 2.
Youngsters like Mateo Joseph and Sonny Perkins have been given opportunities in recent months to play for Marsch and the first team, so there is a clear path for Monterio to follow.
The club is certainly in safe hands for the future and Orta adding up-and-coming players like Monterio to the ranks never goes amiss.
With the youngster being pictured at the airport, it’s very likely that he’ll be announced in the coming week as a new Leeds United player.
Monterio would be Leeds United’s third and likely final January transfer window signing.
