Leeds United have been linked with Brentford striker Ivan Toney over the last two summers but did not make any efforts to sign him.

The Englishman made them pay for it, scoring a brilliant hat-trick against them which included two magnificent strikes.

The first one was a direct free kick that left Illan Meslier with no chance to get his hands on it while the second one perfectly highlighted his techniques as he dinked the ball over a number of Leeds defenders into the goal.

Victor Orta, the man responsible for signing first team players, had the glorious opportunity to sign Toney before he even kicked a ball in the Premier League.

Back in March 2021, with the Bess not even guaranteed a spot in the English top flight, the Bees were willing to cash in on the striker.

According to TEAMtalk, they were prepared to lose his services for £30million with Leeds being one of the teams keen on signing him.

However, the Whites did not act and Toney went on to have a remarkable end to the Championship campaign and a prolific Premier League season as well.

Even this summer, when a striker was a priority, Leeds did not even do as much as open talks with the Englishman to see whether or not he fancied the move even though Brentford were open to a sale. [Dean Jones]

He would certainly get a wage hike had he moved to Elland Road and he would be playing under a more attacking manager as well.

Leeds cannot afford to keep letting quality targets pass by as it will only cost them in the long run.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have reached an agreement to sign a left-back, according to his agent.
