Leeds United miss out on Helder Costa windfall as Saudi Arabian transfer window shuts

Leeds United may have been working round-the-clock on Thursday (7 September) evening in order to sell Helder Costa to Saudi clubs.

CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs told Give Me Sport on 8 September that two Saudi clubs had made approaches for the 29-year-old.

Costa spent last season on loan at Al Ittihad but they did not seem too keen to secure his services ahead of the transfer deadline at 10pm on Thursday but he did not move there.

Jacobs said, “There hasn’t been that much interest in Costa. There had been a few Saudi enquiries, and also in Turkey. We need to wait and see what happens. There’s a possibility that he will leave for sure. On the Saudi side, he received an approach about three weeks ago from Al-Taawoun, and Al-Shabab, under their old board, had explored a deal.”

The Angola international surely does not have a future at Elland Road and the sooner he’s out the better it will be for the club.

Saudi clubs are among the richest in the world and they easily could have shelled out a multi-million fee in order to secure the services of the 29-year-old.

However, it seems like Leeds or Costa did not do too much in order to engage those clubs to make an official offer for him.

The window in Turkey remains open and that appears to be the last chance the Whites have towards making some money from his sale.

Daniel Farke certainly will be fuming that they did not cash in on Costa as this is money that can be used to make a new signing in January when clubs are desperate for the X Factor transfer.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites tabled multiple enquiries to sign a multi-million international winger ahead of the transfer deadline.
