Leeds United midfielder Marc Roca made daily phone calls to Real Betis ahead of move

Real Betis sporting director Ramon Planes claims Marc Roca called him daily this summer to engineer a move away from Leeds United.

The 26-year-old eventually ended up moving to the La Liga outfit on loan due to a provision in his contract that could be triggered post relegation.

Roca only moved to Elland Road last summer and struggled to make a mark for himself in the first team.

“He was desperate, he called every day. He left because of a good contract situation,” Planes told Betis TV, as transcribed by Marca. “He wanted to return and that’s how he told us. And I told him ‘Calm down, we’re going to do it.’

“Marc is a boy who’s going to give us a lot. When the possibility with Manuel was seen, he immediately told us yes, that he knew him, the season is very long. He’s going to give us many things.”

Not needed

Daniel Farke mentioned since his initial days that he does not want anyone at Leeds who does not want to stay.

If Roca was making calls on the daily, it’s evident that relegation made the decision for him and he was happy to be out of Elland Road.

The Spaniard hasn’t really been an exceptional player for the Whites since his move last summer, as it is.

He often struggled to cope with the pace of the English game and Leeds might be better off without him.

They signed Ethan Ampadu, Glen Kamara and Ilia Gruev in midfield – three players who always wanted to join the club.

These are the kinds of players Farke wants and hopefully, the decision to pick them pays off.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites tabled multiple enquiries to sign a multi-million international winger ahead of the transfer deadline.
