Leeds United make Ao Tanaka announcement

Leeds United midfielder Ao Tanaka has been called up to the Japanese squad ahead of the November international break.

Tanaka has been a standout player throughout the season for Leeds and his performances earned him another call-up to represent his nation, adding to the 29 international caps he has already received.

The news was confirmed in a post on Leeds’ official website, on Thursday, 7 November.

Ao Tanaka plays a crucial role for Leeds United

The Japanese international has been a key component to Daniel Farke’s side and the German will be hoping he can return from international duty unscathed.

Tanaka has featured in 11 league games for the Whites, starting seven of those, and has impressed in every appearance. In the absence of injured Ethan Ampadu, who is due to return to action ahead of schedule, Tanaka has been Leeds’ best midfielder and played a crucial role in helping the Whites close the gap on league leaders Sunderland.

His performance against Plymouth especially, was exceptional. Recording a remarkable 91% pass accuracy from 116 attempted passes, according to FotMob.

That wasn’t the only Championship clash in which he has impressed this season and it certainly won’t be the last.

Tanaka will play a very important role at Leeds United this season and fingers will certainly be crossed at Elland Road that Tanaka can return without injury.

In other Leeds United news, QPR could be without Michael Frey and Ilias Chair when they travel to Elland Road on Saturday, Marti Cifuentes has said.
