Leeds United may want to sign United States defender and Manchester United target Joe Scally after scouting mission last week

Leeds United may reportedly have Borussia Monchengladbach defender and Manchester United target Joe Scally on their radar as they watched him in action last week.

According to 90 Min [14 November], the Manchester outfit and Tottenham Hotspur also had representatives at the game to keep tabs on the 19-year-old United States international who ended up winning 4-2 against Borussia Dortmund on 11 November.

Leeds sent officials to mainly track Raphael Guerreiro but Scally could also be a potential option given Jesse Marsch’s American revolution at Elland Road.

Unlikely and not a priority

For starters, signing a right-back who’s had one full season of senior football in Europe’s top five leagues is not something Leeds will prioritise over the next few months.

The Whites have pressing issues at left-back and striker and these two positions would be the priorities in January.

At right-back, Leeds signed Rasmus Kristensen over the summer and already have Luke Ayling and Cody Drameh as backups.

However, the main issues are at left-back with Junior Firpo not being good enough and Pascal Struijk playing there out of position.

Even if Leeds do want Scally for the long-term, beating Manchester United and Spurs to his services is going to be nigh on impossible.

Both can offer better prospects of silverware, European football and also heavy paychecks and more global exposure – the things that youngsters factor in before making moves.

It’s safe to say that Leeds aren’t entering a bidding war with these two billionaire-owned clubs.

In other Leeds United news, a first-team defender may not have long left at Elland Road after “Awful” footage emerges from last week, making a January transfer imperative.
