Leeds United may reignite interest in Ajax left-back Nicolas Tagliafico amid Junior Firpo injury woes

Leeds United have been linked with a move for Nicolas Tagliafico in the past and are believed to be keen on signing a left-back this summer.

Junior Firpo’s set to miss the start of the Premier League campaign and this may see Victor Orta and co. intensify their efforts to sign a replacement or a backup.

They may even turn to former targets, especially those that appear to be on their way out and thus easier to sign in the coming weeks.

Leeds Live wrote, “Ajax full back Nicolas Tagliafico has previously been linked with a move to West Yorkshire and is still looking to leave Ajax this summer – potentially opening the door for a bargain.

“With 40 Argentina caps and several seasons of Champions League football, Tagliafico would provide invaluable experience, and with just one year left on his current deal and clearly wanting out, the 29-year-old could be signed for just £4-5million”

According to SoccerNews, the Argentina international has been discussed at Leeds even this summer and the club could look to make a move.

For that transfer fee, he will be a bargain and arguably an upgrade on Firpo.

With him keen on leaving, he could be tempted to have a go in the Premier League as it is viewed as the holy grail of domestic leagues in Europe.

He’s extremely versatile and can also play further up the pitch – which would give Jesse Marsch the flexibility of playing a defensive winger on the left and an attacking one on the other side – especially in games they’re unlikely to win.

This transfer makes a lot of sense and we will not be surprised to see him at Elland Road this summer.

He’s played 25 games in the Champions League and countless ones in Europe’s top five leagues and his experience will be invaluable inside the dressing room.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay claims that a midfielder who was admired by Marcelo Bielsa is set to leave this summer.
