Leeds United may price Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur out of move for Illan Meslier

Leeds United would reportedly “loathe” to sell Illan Meslier this summer amid interest from Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

According to the Irish Daily Star (17 August, page 45), the Whites could price out their two Premier League rivals like they did with Newcastle for Jack Harrison.

The Magpies were hot on the heels of the English attacker but Leeds were firm with their valuation which forced them to look elsewhere.

Makes sense

The Whites cannot afford to lose two more key players in the same window as they lost Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha.

The squad overhaul would be massive and it risks unsettling the dressing room completely which can only have dire consequences.

Despite Jesse Marsch being relatively new at Elland Road, he would not want a squad of players that are not used to each other.

Losing Meslier at this late stage in the window leaves Leeds will with very little time to sort out a replacement with no prior indication from the player’s end.

However, it does not seem that the Frenchman is really looking to force a move so fans can rest easy, at least for the time being.

The interest in his services may not reduce over the coming years as he’s an exceptional ball-playing goalkeeper who’s still very young and may one day become one of Europe’s finest stoppers given how well he’s progressed over the past few years.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites now have a clear run to sign a £20m-rated left-back as their Premier League rivals have now bowed out of the race.
