Leeds United may now renew bid to appoint number one manager target Marcelo Gallardo

Leeds United may now make another attempt to appoint Marcelo Gallardo, who was their number one pick at the beginning of the process, according to a report from iNews.

Mark Douglas reports on 10 February that “there is little sense of panic” at the moment, as the club are keen to get the right man rather than rush an appointment.

Rayo Vallecano are unwilling to part ways with Andoni Iraola while Feyenoord have issued a stark hands-off warning on Arne Slot. After another setback, the Whites could now move the former River Plate manager Gallardo, who is currently taking a sabbatical.

His philosophy and style of play align with Leeds’ approach as the club hope to have someone confirmed before their game against Everton.

Linguistic barrier?

Gallardo would be a fantastic appointment for the club, but it won’t be that easy to lure him to Elland Road. The 47-year-old has a great reputation of nurturing young talents, and he would be a dream coach for the Whites, as suggested by the Guardian journalist Juan Arango.

TYC Sports reported on 9 February that Andrea Radrizzani made the formal offer to Gallardo, but the former River Plate manager doesn’t want to rush to make a decision as yet.

He feels that the language barrier could be a major stumbling block to working properly in England. He doesn’t speak English, and it could be a big problem for him to communicate properly with his players, and give instructions to other staff members.

Gallardo can easily appoint a translator. Marcelo Bielsa did the same, although he could converse in English, though not fluently.

It is crucial for the Whites to assess all possible options before they can appoint the right candidate. Hopefully, it won’t be too long, but Gallardo joining Leeds cannot be completely ruled out, as it stands.
