Leeds United may have to accept Tyler Adams exit defeat to ramp up rebuild as transfer news drops

Chelsea have reportedly added Tyler Adams to their summer transfer wishlist and his £20m release clause could mean Leeds United accept defeat in their wishes to keep him at Elland Road.

According to the Times (31 July), Chelsea’s unsuccessful pursuit of Brighton’s Caicedo has led Pochettino to draw up potential midfield alternatives to add depth and experience to his squad, especially in the middle of the park, with Adams one of the potential options.

The 24-year-old, has a relegation release clause in his contract, as previously reported by the Athletic’s Phil Hay, meaning that he is available for a fee of around £20m following the Whites’ relegation last season.

Daniel Farke

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, on his Here We Go podcast (27 July), believes that there is a concrete chance Adams will leave Elland Road this summer and it is believed that the American international is prioritising a Premier League return, with not only Chelsea interested, but Nottingham Forest, West Ham and even Everton.

Although Adams is currently dealing with a hamstring injury which is likely to keep him out until after the window closes, Romano believes that a deal is still very much on the cards for him to depart Elland Road.

“The injury doesn’t help of course, but the expectation is that Tyler Adams will make a move this summer, there will be conversations there will be negotiations,” he said.

“There are some clubs interested in the Premier League. I am told that the Premier League is the priority of the player more than the Bundesliga, some Bundesliga clubs tried to explore the move, but the priority is the Premier League and so let’s see on that one, but I think there is a concrete chance for Tyler Adams to leave.”

Many Leeds fans seem to be convinced that they’d still have Adams at the club after the transfer window closed considering his injury and the lack of clubs moving for him.

And manager Daniel Farke may well be forgiven for planning to have Adams in his starting line-up once he returns from injury before long.

However, the American international’s £20m may well alert several Premier League sides to move for him, for which Leeds may have to accept defeat in their attempts to keep him at Elland Road.

Following the departures of the likes of Rodrigo, Marc Roca, Max Wober, Brenden Aaronson, Max Wober, Rasmus Kristensen, the Whites’ reluctant exit stance on Adams is perfectly understandable, but it is abundantly clear, Adams is a level above the Championship and deserves another Premier League platform.

While it would be impressive and a statement should the Whites keep him at Elland Road, his exit may prove a much-needed blessing in disguise.

£20m for a Championship club is a lot of money, especially to reinvest and after the signings of Ethan Ampadu and Karl Darlow, Farke will be itching for more additions and his team are in desperate need of reinforcements in several areas of the pitch, especially in midfield.

The fee they’d receive for Adams could arguably get them four more potential additions for Farke to significantly bolster his squad and with the expected auction for the American’s services, the Whites will certainly have to accept defeat on his exit.

It’s a potentially suitable move for all parties involved.
