Leeds United manager news: EFL head coach delivers verdict as Angus Kinnear and Paraag Marathe conduct search

An unnamed League One manager has explained the process as Leeds United aim to conduct their manager search this week.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post [22 June] who claim that Angus Kinnear and Paraag Marathe will be having face-to-face interviews as they’re spearheading the managerial search.

Patrick Vieira and Daniel Farke appear to be among the frontrunners while Scott Parker’s name has been thrown in the mix as well.

The manager of an EFL club said, “The biggest thing is alignment, that what the club believes it needs to get success and what the head coach can deliver is aligned.

“If so you can be successful, if not that’s where trouble comes from. I’ve had conversations where I’ve felt like it isn’t for me. I’ve had quite a few interviews and four jobs, and I’ve had times where the fit wasn’t right and that was either my choice or the club’s choice.

“I’m trying to get the people I’m going to be working for to understand me. How I see the football and how I see that team developed under my leadership. Am I happy with the players who are there, am I going to make a lot of change, will the playing style change, is the culture right for me?

“I’m not the type of person that goes into an interview and can mould yourself to the job. You could easily do that but it won’t work in the long term. It’s about me showing me what I’m going to do and if that fits with the club. If it doesn’t, then that’s fine as well. I’ll move on to the next one.”

Needs to be thorough

The search appears to be down to two or maybe three if Parker is included but it’s best if it’s focused on Farke and Vieira.

While Farke has struggled in the Premier League, he was always judged based on a Norwich side that wanted to be sustainable in the transfer window.

They never gave the manager the tools to build and at Leeds, under the new ownership, things could be slightly different for him.

For Vieira, he played some lovely football with Palace and improved the young players at Selhurst Park.

It seemed like his magic came to an end and his plans became stale – which is normal after a few years at a club.

He would also be a decent appointment and the Leeds board needs to be thorough with their interview process to see who the best man for the job is.

In other Leeds United news, a BBC pundit has been left stunned as Phil Hay has dropped a fresh update on who the Whites are considering bringing in as manager this summer.
