Leeds United manager news: BT Sport reacts as Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira update emerges

Tony Dorigo has reacted to the latest Leeds United managerial news and has made a comparison to former Liverpool captain and ex Rangers boss Steven Gerrard.

The Guardian reported on 21 June that former Crystal Palace manager and Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira is the frontrunner for the job.

Dorigo believes that much like Gerrard, he’s had a great playing career, but has failed to live up to expectations as a manager.

The BT Sport pundit told the Yorkshire Evening Post, “The latest name in the hat, we’re told, is Patrick Vieira, an incredible player, who would bring with him the experience he garnered at New York City, Nice and then Crystal Palace.

“The sounds out of the Palace camp always seemed positive about Vieira but results didn’t quite go his way and then he was under pressure.

“I think he’s another one who will have many admirers and huge potential but equally he has something to prove and that puts him in the Steven Gerrard bracket.

“Wonderfully talented individuals as players but as managers, although they’ve looked good and had a chance, the last job hasn’t gone as well as it could.”

Tad harsh

If Dorigo is to judge everyone on the final days of their job then it will not be a favourable outcome for anybody.

Vieira did some good things at Palace as he got them to play decent football, promoted the young players and also made some shrewd signings that fit in well at Selhurst Park.

He certainly left the club in a better shape than he found it in and that’s precisely the job that needs to be done at Leeds.

After three years in the top flight, they’re now in the Championship and despite players certainly to leave, have it in them to bounce back up next season.

Vieira is a decent manager and he even impressed Jurgen Klopp by the way he took to life in the Premier League back in September 2021. [Metro]

It remains to be seen what happens now and which direction the Whites end up going in as Daniel Farke is another name believed to be on their list.

In other Leeds United news, a BBC pundit has been left stunned as Phil Hay has dropped a fresh update on who the Whites are considering bringing in as manager this summer.
