Leeds United manager news as Phil Hay shares ‘red line’ verdict

The Athletic journalist Phil Hay believes that the Premier League clash between Leeds United and Everton has now become a “red line” by which the club need to find a new manager.

The Telegraph reported on 12 February that former Ajax boss Alfred Schreuder is now being lined up to become the next Leeds United manager.

Hay confessed that if Schreuder does end up joining the club for the clash with Everton and goes to Goodison Park and loses, his situation could turn volatile given the backlash already.

“If you appoint Schreuder in those circumstances with the scepticism around him and he went Goodison Park on Saturday and lost, you’d already be in pretty volatile circumstances,” said Hay speaking on The Phil Hay Show. (13 February)

“With Schreuder, it does very much feel like they have reached a point now where they are looking for options that can be done quickly, without a doubt Everton has become a red line and they won’t want this to go beyond the stage where a new head coach isn’t in charge for the Everton game.”

Stinks.

This whole situation absolutely stinks and the fact the club are pursuing a deal for a manager that nobody really wants isn’t the way to start off a new managerial appointment.

Hay isn’t wrong at all, if Schreuder is appointed as the new Leeds United boss and instantly goes to Goodison Park and loses, things will look even worse for the Dutchman.

It’s hard to remember a time when a potential new manager incoming has received less enthusiasm than this and hopefully Andrea Radrizanni and co will question their potential decision.

Most fans would prefer to see Michael Skubala stay at the helm for the Everton clash if it meant getting the right manager through the door next week.

When Premier League survival is on the table and a potential calamitous appointment is on the cards, the board really needs to question the direction in which they are heading.

Schreuder out of no where? Leeds would be better off steering clear.
