Leeds United manager news: Andoni Iraola makes decision after big-money Almeria offer

Andoni Iraola has reportedly made his decision after seeing Almeria’s big-money offer amid links with Leeds United and Celtic.

According to Diario De Almeria [12 June], the La Liga club made him an “irresistible financial offer” which saw him give the green signal to join them after leaving Rayo Vallecano.

Leeds, Celtic and Marseille were understood to be keeping tabs on any developments but will now have to accept defeat and look elsewhere.

Iraola appeared to be the primary target right after Jesse Marsch was sacked but he did not want to leave Rayo in the middle of the season.

They were flying high and had European football in sight and it was a project that seemed too good to leave post January.

However, he eventually did leave the club and despite the money, it does not really seem like an upgrade.

Even for Leeds, if they somehow could’ve convinced him, the chances of them staying in the Premier League would’ve increased.

Not only would he get his side to play a better style of football – one that most players are used to – he would also get a significant pay hike and a hefty bonus had he managed to keep Leeds in the top flight.

It seems like it was a wasted opportunity for both parties and it could’ve been a fantastic match but unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be.
