Leeds United man Jeremiah Mullen sends one-word message to Manchester City star Rico Lewis after award last night
Leeds United Under-21s man Jeremiah Mullen has sent a one-word message to Manchester City star Rico Lewis.
The message comes after the latter was named as the England Player of the Match in their Euro 2024 qualifier against North Macedonia.
On his debut, Lewis played the entire match as Gareth Southgate’s side drew 1-1 away from home on Monday (20 November).
Posting on Instagram, Lewis wrote: “Thank you to everyone who has supported me on this journey so far. It is an honour of a lifetime to represent England.”
Among those sending messages to the Three Lions ace was Leeds youngster Mullen, who commented on the post: “Top.”
Great moment
Lewis was undoubtedly feeling some sort of nerves before taking to the pitch against North Macedonia given how it was his international debut.
But the Manchester City youngster certainly didn’t look out of place, with manager Southgate now having a dilemma on his hands about just how quickly he can fast-track the defender into his squad, and even into his starting XI.
Competition for places is fierce in the England squad, with a long list of players eyeing a place on the plane for Euro 2024 next summer.
And Lewis will certainly fancy his chances after his Player of the Match award against North Macedonia, despite an ultimately frustrating night for the visitors.
Having trailed 1-0 for almost an hour, the Three Lions finally made their way past their determined opponents, although they did have to settle for an own goal.
England finished their qualifying campaign in top spot, winning six of their eight matches and drawing the other two to end proceedings unbeaten.
