Leeds United man Illan Meslier praised by Michael Brown

Leeds United player Illan Meslier has been praised by Michael Brown for his “wonderful” save against Newcastle United.

The Whites were leading 1-0 at St James’ Park when the ball fell to Joelinton eight yards out, and it looked like for all the world he would score.

However, the 21-year-old Frenchman pulled off a fantastic save to deny the Brazilian his first goal of the season, and Brown lauded the goalkeeper.

Speaking on BBC 5 Live, he said: “I don’t know how Joelinton has not scored. Fantastic play from Saint-Maximin. Wonderful save from Meslier. It is just not happening for Newcastle.”

Excellent save by Meslier.

The 21-year-old has established himself as the Whites’ number one, and it is because of saves like this.

He had no right even to make contact with the strike from Joelinton, never mind keep it out of the net.

Leeds haven’t been great defensively this season, but if Meslier can keep pulling off saves like that, then you would think they will be fine.

This was an incredibly entertaining game, and Meslier had to be on top form throughout, and this save was absolutely fantastic.

The Frenchman looks like he has a huge future ahead of him, and considering how young he is, he could go on to become a Leeds legend.

Clearly, this save impressed Brown, and it is just a shame that he couldn’t keep a clean sheet as Allan Saint-Maximin fired one past him near the end of the first half.
