Leeds United make several approaches for new manager, Sam Allardyce deal now done

Leeds United have made several approaches for a new manager but a deal has now been completed with Sam Allardyce, according to Alex Crook.

The Whites held crisis talks on Monday (1 May) surrounding the futures of both Javi Gracia and director of football Victor Orta after the dismal 4-1 defeat to Bournemouth last weekend. [The Athletic]

Taking to Twitter on Tuesday morning (2 May), Crook tweeted that former England manager Allardyce had agreed on a deal until the end of the season but that the club had approached numerous figures for the job at Elland Road.

“Allardyce deal done,” he wrote.

“Wasn’t the only candidate Leeds United approached.”

Lesson learned

It is interesting to see that Leeds had several candidates in such a short amount of time after the defeat to Bournemouth at the weekend and is a change from the laborious process to replace Jesse Marsch in February.

This time around though it seems like the club have learned from their mistakes and realised the need for change was urgent.

Allardyce is by no means the most exciting appointment in the world, but he is somebody who can take Leeds back to basics and hopefully sure up their defence which shipped a record-breaking 23 goals in April alone.

There’s no easy start for the 68-year-old though, with Manchester City awaiting on the horizon this weekend, followed by an equally tough match against Newcastle at Elland Road.

Although numerous candidates were approached, it does feel like Leeds might have landed on the correct choice at the end of the day.

Allardyce is a pragmatist and hopefully, a figure who can lead the club to Premier League survival.
