Leeds United make offer for FC Metz defender William Mikelbrencis

Leeds United have made an offer to try and sign FC Metz’s teenage defender William Mikelbrencis, according to L’Equipe journalist Loic Tanzi.

The Whites have already signed one right-back this summer in the form of Rasmus Kristensen and also have Luke Ayling and Cody Drameh at the club but they appear keen to sign another in that position.

The 18-year-old also has interest from Bundesliga 2 side Hamburg who have already seen a bid rebuffed by Metz [L’Equipe] but discussions between the two clubs are ongoing still.

Mikelbrencis currently prefers a move to the German side but that is largely down to the assurances that he will be immediately involved in the first team at the Volksparkstadion.

He could be available fairly cheaply though as he enters the final year of his contract with the French second division club after making nine appearances in Ligue 1 last season as the club were relegated.

End of Drameh?

With the three aforementioned right-backs at Elland Road already, it seems bizarre that the club have made an offer to sign another unless they see one of them leaving before the transfer window closes.

Drameh was very vocal in his desire to leave in January to get first-team football and he may be at it again now Kristensen has signed to put another hurdle in his way at Leeds United.

Mikelbrencis would be another player potentially in his way and you get the feeling that he has had enough of having to fight to play this much and he may want to leave for good this time.

And it would probably be the right move for him and the club now that he is 20 years of age unless Ayling ends up leaving in a cruel late twist to the window.

Of course, this could all be irrelevant if the teenager chooses to join Hamburg instead for first-team football.

In other Leeds United news, another teenage starlet has already signed on the dotted line at Thorp Arch after switching from Wales.
