Leeds United make new Charlie Crew announcement

Leeds United starlet Charlie Crew has been promoted to the senior Wales squad after making his debut for Daniel Farke’s side.

The Whites announced on X (12 November) that Crew, previously on stand-by duty for Wales’ forthcoming international fixtures, has now been drafted into the squad to face Turkey and Iceland.

Crew, 18, already has a senior Welsh cap to his name having made his bow against Gibraltar in June and was recently given a first-team debut at Elland Road by Farke in the 3-0 win over Plymouth Argyle.

Charlie Crew ready to establish himself for Leeds United and Wales

Although Crew was given a mere four minutes of action after replacing Joel Piroe in the Whites’ 3-0 win over Plymouth on 2 November, the teenager more than held his own in an impressive late cameo.

Having already made the step up to senior level with Wales, Crew will feel he’s well-placed to become a regular feature for both club and country as his stock continues to rise in central midfield.

Thus far in his fledgling career, Crew has shown no signs of being overawed by the environment he finds himself in and joins club teammates Joe Rodon, Daniel James and Karl Darlow in the Welsh setup.

While Crew has just hit a career milestone, Rodon is on the verge of one himself, and in the absence of Ethan Ampadu, United’s quartet will be needed to bring leadership and familiarity to the Dragons’ camp.

Even with long-term injuries to Ampadu and Ilia Gruev in Farke’s midfield, Crew has a fight on his hands to move up the pecking order, but impressive international displays certainly won’t harm his chances.

In other Leeds news, one of Crew’s fellow academy products is making waves after what he did on loan in the National League.
