Leeds United make final decision on Daniel Farke sack at Elland Road
Daniel Farke will “definitely” be staying on as Leeds United manager, according to The Sun’s Justin Allen.
In a post on X [28 May], Allen revealed that Farke would remain in post at the club after becoming the first team in Championship era history not to be promoted with 90 points, as Southampton took the final remaining spot in next term’s Premier League.
Responding to a fan who commented negatively on the news, Allen doubled down: “It’s true.”
The reporter’s confidence in the validity of the news means many Leeds fans are now looking positively ahead to a second season in the Championship, with automatic promotion once again the aim – something that in many second-tier campaigns would have been achieved with Farke’s points record.
Leeds United’s end to the season cost Daniel Farke
In the three months between January and April, Leeds United were without doubt the best-performing team in the league, and by a distance. Yet they find themselves starved of promotion whilst Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Southampton all return to the big time.
Ipswich in particular disrupted the notion that the three up and three down would have replaced each other from last season, at Leeds’ expense.
Following their 15-match unbeaten run to open 2024, even leading the league table in mid-March after beating Millwall 2-0, Farke’s side slowed drastically in the run-in which brought mass questioning of the team’s robustness and mentality – the boss grouped in on that criticism.
It was hoped that the sluggish halt to the Whites’ momentum was behind them after rampantly disposing of Norwich City in the play-off semi-finals, as Farke landed the final nail in the coffin of his own ex-club’s manager David Wagner.
But now whilst back to the drawing board after firing a critical blank under the arch against Saints, full confidence remains in Farke from the Leeds United hierarchy to make a top-flight return this time next year.
