Leeds United make Andrea Radrizzani approach for Daniel Farke announcement
Leeds United had to approach Andrea Radrizzani to give the green light over Daniel Farke’s announcement as manager, according to Graham Smyth on the Inside Elland Road podcast.
Leeds needed permission from Radrizzani as he is still the majority owner of Leeds United until the 49ers takeover is formally recognised by the EFL.
The club wanted to wait for the takeover to be officially completed before announcing the new manager, mainly for aesthetic purposes as it doesn’t make any material difference but gave in to the need to have a manager in place for the start of pre-season.

Speaking to the Inside Elland Road podcast, Smyth shared: “In order to get Farke in, Leeds did need to go to majority owner Andrea Radrizzani and say ‘this is our manager we’d like you to approve this and green light it’ because he still legally owns the club. They wanted to hold off until they had the takeover done for the aesthetics of it, but it doesn’t really make a material difference.
“They probably could have accelerated the process to bring him in a little bit and had him in a bit earlier without too much drama, but I can understand why they wanted it [the ownership and managerial announcements] in a certain order – but they couldn’t have it in that order.”

Overcomplicated
Everything at Leeds United seems to be overcomplicated at the moment.
Having to approach the selling owner, who shouldn’t be but still is in control of the club, for permission to announce a managerial appointment, is a dramatically overcomplicated way to run the football club.
Luckily, there is no reason Radrizzani wouldn’t allow the club to make certain moves or decisions, but it has the potential to be a real stumbling block for future decisions.
Ultimately, it remains on the EFL to approve the takeover, but with seemingly no reason that they wouldn’t give their approval, the time it is taking is a mystery and one that could cause issues for Leeds this summer.
The takeover of Leeds United by 49ers Enterprises was agreed upon almost a month ago, on 9 June [The Guardian], so the disruption has spilt over from what should’ve been a deal completed over the off-season, into something that is directly affecting the club’s pre-season plans.
In other Leeds United news, another appointment is expected imminently following Farke’s arrival.
