Leeds United made attempt to sign Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic – report

Leeds United made an approach to sign Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic in the summer transfer window, according to 90min.

The Whites have been in the market to sign a striker in order to bolster their attacking unit ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.

The reports suggest that Leeds were one of the teams that made an enquiry about Serbia International.

But the player rejected the approach as he was not keen in making a move to the Premier League and instead opted to join the Italian club Fiorentina

The 24-year-old has three years left on his current deal with Los Blancos and is valued at around £14.4 million by Transfermarkt.

Resurgence

If you want to know the potential of Jovic, you don’t need to look at his time in Real Madrid. With the current Champions League winners, he was nothing but a striker who just failed to deliver at arguably the biggest club in Europe.

In 51 appearances for Los Blancos, Jovic managed to score just three goals for the reigning Spanish champions [Footystats].

Many would argue that he was not given enough time but looking at those numbers, it is hard to

blame either Zinedine Zidane or Carlo Ancelotti for that because Karim Benzema was just too hot to drop and Jovic, whatever little time he had, almost on every occasion, failed to deliver.

While Leeds are desperate to strengthen the attack after a difficult season where they narrowly managed to escape relegation, the Whites need a more proven striker than Jovic, ideally with a Premier League experience, to ensure that the club will not have a similar fate like the 2021-22 campaign.
