Luton injury blow v Leeds United: Five players could be ruled out

Leeds United’s promotion hopes have taken a significant dent in recent weeks as they have slipped behind Sheffield United.

Daniel Farke’s men formerly led the way in the Championship, but they have since managed just one win in five games and sit second in the table, level on points with third-place Burnley.

The Whites were left particularly frustrated by the manner of their 2-2 draw with Swansea on Saturday, as Illan Meslier made two errors to drop vital points.

Up next, the West Yorkshire giants visit relegation-threatened Luton Town on Saturday 5 April, with plenty at stake for both sides.

Five Luton players are set to miss out v Leeds

Three points would be extremely precious for Farke’s men on Saturday as they look to fend off Burnley and book their spot in next season’s Premier League.

Leeds have lost momentum in the promotion race

The Whites have been handed a major boost ahead of their trip to Luton, as five Hatters players look set to miss out on the action, according to Leeds Live.

Jacob Brown remains a long-term absentee for Matt Bloomfield’s side, while defender Teden Mengi is still recovering from a knee injury.

Both Shandon Baptiste and Marvelous Nakamba are nursing calf problems, whereas Isaiah Jones remains a doubt after suffering an injury on international duty with Guyana.

Leeds must get back to winning ways v Luton

The Whites still occupy an automatic promotion spot with just seven games left to play in the Championship this term.

However, in recent weeks, anxiety has swept across the Elland Road faithful who have witnessed Farke’s men endure a woeful run of form.

Leeds are now at serious risk of dropping out of the automatic promotion spots and into the playoffs, which would be a far-from-ideal situation for the West Yorkshire outfit.

Just last season, the Whites missed out on an automatic promotion spot to Ipswich by the cruel margin of six points and went on to lose the playoff final to Southampton.

While third-place Burnley are enjoying an unrelenting unbeaten streak in the Championship, and Sheffield United will want the title, Leeds fans will be worried about a potential repeat of last season.

But Luton have endured a woeful season and present themselves as a beatable opposition for Farke, who could find his job on the line very soon.
