Leeds United: Luke Ayling sends three-word message as Elland Road exit confirmed on Deadline Day

Leeds United loanee Luke Ayling sent a three-word message to Ian Poveda after his confirmed exit from Elland Road.

The Whites confirmed on their official website (1 February) that the winger joined the Owls for the remainder of the season on Deadline Day.

The 23-year-old made 10 appearances in all competitions this season under Daniel Farke before his move to Hillsborough.

Poveda took to his Instagram account (2 February) to express his delight over his new chapter at Sheffield Wednesday, writing: “Over the moon to be here! Want to thank the Boss for the belief in me first of all and the fans for the warm welcome!! Up the Wednesday! It’s Showtime.”

In response, Leeds teammate Ayling, who is also on loan from the Whites in the Championship shared his response with a message writing: “Go shine brother.”

New chapter

There were a lot of late moves in the Championship, with clubs scrambling to get deals over the line on transfer Deadline Day and Leeds United certainly made sure they were amongst the action.

As well as Poveda’s anticipated exit from the club, Farke got a deal for Burnley defender Connor Roberts over the line in a welcome boost for their Championship promotion aspirations.

However, Poveda’s exit signals a significant new chapter for both teams given the 23-year-old was one of the first signings of the era that kickstarted the Whites’ resurgence in English football under Marcel Bielsa.

Having joined the Whites in January 2020, the player played a minor role in the club’s promotion to the Premier League.

But first-team minutes have not exactly been forthcoming in more recent times, with Poveda loaned to both Blackburn Rovers and Blackpool during his time at Leeds.

Leeds United

The attacker will now be keen to land regular football, and given his experience and potential, and indeed his new club’s current struggles, that should not be a problem. Sheffield Wednesday desperately need a player of his calibre and hopefully now, it is his time to shine.

The Owls currently sit 23rd in the Championship table, with Poveda set to provide them with a fresh perspective and attacking rejuvenation in their relegation fight.

In other Leeds United news, there is hope for the reset of one Whites player as talks continue at Elland Road.
