Leeds United are allowed to post a loss of £56.4million from the 2022/23 season after a combined loss of £48.6million over the previous two seasons, according to Yorkshire Evening Post.

The online source reported [4 March] that the Whites are far below the £105million threshold that clubs are allowed to lose over a three-year period before action is taken in accordance with Financial Fair Play.

Reports are yet to be announced but it is believed that Leeds will be safe from FFP breaches while promotion rivals Southampton could come very close to the £105million limit.

How important is Premier League promotion to Leeds United?

Though Leeds will likely come nowhere near the £105million limit, the unreported accounts highlight the importance of the club reaching the Premier League this season.

Elland Road has been leaking money over the last few seasons, with the club attempting to remain in the top division before falling into the second tier in the last campaign.

The changes in management will certainly have taken its toll on the accounts at Elland Road, with Jesse Marsch, Javi Garcia, Sam Allardyce and Daniel Farke all hired over the last 20 months. However, with all being out of work when appointed by Leeds, the cost was much lower than many may realise.

Promotion from the Championship at the end of the current campaign will allow Leeds more chances to earn more money, rather than continue to make losses, and that seems like a very real possibility.

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke
Daniel Farke has done an incredible job at Leeds United this season

Although Farke's side have slipped down to third after a 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town on Saturday 2 March, the Whites remain five points behind Leicester City and two points behind Ipswich Town.

Fans will definitely want to avoid the playoffs if Premier League promotion is to be acquired, as anything can happen at the end of the season, but it would be difficult to see any other future than Leeds moving out of the Championship.
