Leeds United look into late centre-back signing as Diego Llorente heads to Roma – Sky Sports journalist
Leeds United are looking into a move for another central defender as Diego Llorente edges closer to completing his transfer to Roma, according to Tim Thornton.
The Yorkshire side have already signed (31 January) 18-year-old central defender Diogo Monteiro from Swiss Super League side Servette FC.
Thornton has suggested (Sky Sports News, 31 January, quoted by Leeds All Over) the board are now looking at potential targets with Llorente undergoing his Roma medical.
“Diego Llorente, he’s currently in Rome he’s undergoing a medical and completing a move there, that will be a loan move with a view to a permanent,” said the Sky Sports reporter (31 January).
“It means Leeds are assessing their central defensive options and they are looking at potential targets today.”
Busy
Leeds have had an extremely hectic transfer window and on deadline day anything is possible. Llorente’s departure does leave the Whites are little bit short at the back, but the Spaniard was unlikely to feature too much in the second half of the Premier League campaign.
Max Wober is clearly viewed by Jesse Marsch as a superior central defensive option and will likely play an important part moving forward. At this moment, another central defender joining the club does feel unlikely, but one or two moves elsewhere could lead to a player becoming available who previously wasn’t.

Even if the board fail to add another player before the deadline there should be plenty of positivity around Elland Road. January has seen their club-record transfer made and an international standard midfielder join the club, along with Wober.
Considering some of their rivals positions, this is not a a bad position to currently be in.
