Leeds loanee Ryan Edmondson dropped after off-the-field problems at Northampton
Leeds United forward Ryan Edmondson has been suffering from off-the-field problems during his loan spell with Northampton Town.
Jon Brady dropped the Whites talent for the 1-0 defeat against Crewe over the weekend, despite putting together a run of starts beforehand.
Marcelo Bielsa handed Edmondson the chance to go out and get football at the start of the season, after the arrival of Sam Greenwood and Joe Gelhardt.
Speaking to the Northampton Chronicle after their game on Saturday, Brady admitted that it hasn’t been the best of times recently for the youngster.
“Edmo’s played five or six games in a row and he’s worked very hard but off the pitch, he’s having a very tough time personally with a few things,” he said.
“We have tried to manage that but I felt he needed to come out and have a rest to refresh.”
Chance has gone.
With Gelhardt and Greenwood storming through the Premier League 2 Division 2, Edmondson simply has lost his chance to ever breakthrough at Elland Road.
Despite signing a new deal at the club, it is highly unlikely that he will ever jump ahead in the pecking order and that is why he is currently out on loan.
Both Greenwood and Gelhardt are consistently away with England youth sides, and are in and out of the Premier League squad in all competitions.
Edmondson was never handed that chance by Bielsa, and his debut came before El Loco arrived in West Yorkshire; his time has passed.
Whatever the young striker is going through is clearly effecting his football, and we hope that can be resolved as soon as possible.
