Leeds United loanee Charlie Cresswell impresses for country

Leeds United loanee Charlie Cresswell was brilliant for the England U-21 side as they defeated the Italy counterpart on Thursday (22 September).

The 20-year-old centre-back has been sent on loan to Millwall in the Championship where he has made a bright start to the campaign.

Cresswell was superb for his country. He started the game and played the entire 90 minutes.

“Great result and attitude from the boys tonight,” Cresswell wrote on Instagram after the game.

After making his debut last season under Marcelo Bielsa, the Whites faced a dilemma with him this summer.

Despite his tender age, he is too good for the academy levels. And he has also shown that he is quite capable of handling the pressure at the top level as well.

Jesse Marsch has taken the right decision. Leeds have a wealth of defensive options, and when everyone is fit, Marsch will have a real selection headache to pick his best formation.

He has got Liam Cooper, Diego Llorente, Robin Koch, and Pascal Struijk as four main centre-backs while there are others who can play in that position as well.

Marsch would have really struggled to give him regular game time which is needed for his development. A move to Championship, therefore, was the best possible scenario.

He has scored three goals and provided one assist in eight games already for Millwall.

Marsch will be particularly pleased with his performance for England. He looked solid and comfortable in possession throughout the game, as noted by Leeds Live.

His rapid progress should thrill Marsch, and the Whites boss will feel that his decision to send him out on loan is vindicated. The confidence is now oozing from his game.

In other Leeds United news, a Sky Sports pundit has reacted to Gary Neville’s suggestion that the 49ers’ potential ownership at Leeds would be a problem.
