Leeds United-linked Nadiem Amiri faces uncertain Bayer Leverkusen future after recent development

Bayer Leverkusen decided to leave out midfielder Nadiem Amiri from the Europa League squad after his failed summer move to Leeds United, according to Rheinesche Post.

The German newspaper reported in its print edition on Wednesday (13 September, C5) that he is considered to have no prospect at the Bundesliga club in the future.

The same publication reported (30 August, C5) that Leeds agreed on a fee with Leverkusen to sign the 26-year-old but he opted against moving to Elland Road.

His fault

Leeds did everything they could to convince Amiri to move to Elland Road over the summer transfer window.

He appeared to have given his word to multiple clubs before backing out of all moves and he ended up staying put in Germany.

It’s fair to assume that Leverkusen expected him to move on and get money from his sale but his turning down moves put that in jeopardy.

In a way, it’s good that the Whites did not sign him as he did not really appear to want the move as much as they wanted him.

It would be the case of a player downing tools and that’s the last thing that Daniel Farke would’ve wanted at Elland Road.

Leeds signed three midfielders and are in better shape now than they were a month ago so Amiri will not be missed.

In other Leeds United news, a Whites player now faces over 12 weeks out of action due to injury if the worst-case scenario takes place.
