Leeds United-linked manager Rafa Benitez waits for West Ham job

Leeds United managerial target Rafa Benitez is reportedly waiting for the West Ham job as David Moyes is on tenterhooks at the London Stadium.

According to the Daily Mail [20 February], the Leeds project is not one that interests the former Liverpool and Everton manager.

On the other hand, he would be tempted by the one at the Hammers should they offer him a long-term deal.

Good news

Most Leeds fans would not want Benitez anywhere near the club and it’s good to see that he does not fancy a move either.

He can go to West Ham who already play a defensive brand on football and rely too much on counterattacks to get points.

Leeds have built the squad under Marcelo Bielsa and then Jesse Marsch to have good technical players who are good at winning the ball back quickly and playing the game on their own terms.

Bielsa was massively unlucky with the number of injuries during his final weeks at the club as before that his plan appeared to be working perfectly.

The Whites cannot abandon their philosophy of appointing attacking-minded managers who like to press high up the pitch.

Benitez will make them a 4-4-2 counter-attacking team and as it was seen at Everton, it’s a recipe for disaster and they can do better.
