Leeds United-linked Fofana compared to Yaya Toure and Vieira by expert

Leeds United are still pursuing RC Lens midfielder Seko Fofana as they get set to battle Premier League rivals Newcastle and Burnley for his signature.

The 26-year-old is having an outstanding season individually in Ligue 1 and that has propelled his side to sixth in the league, above the likes of Lyon and reigning champions Lille.

The Daily Mail reported Leeds’ interest in Fofana although they add that Burnley and Newcastle are keen on the £14million-rated Ivory Coast international.

GFFN’s chief feature writer Adam White is an expert in French football and when asked about comparisons between Fofana and legends such as Yaya Toure and Patrick Vieira, he said to GiveMeSport: “I think elements of both of those two players would be a good approximation of his skill set.

“He is a great player and has been fantastic this year.”

Not a bad comparison

It’s not every day you get compared to two of the greatest box-to-box midfielders of all time.

You can see why there are plenty of clubs queueing up to sign the 26-year-old if he is drawing such comparisons.

And given everything that’s been said about him in recent weeks, he sounds like the perfect player for Leeds United and Marcelo Bielsa.

A tenacious midfielder who can run all day and all night and all day again is like a wet dream for the Argentine who will hope that he would be able to come in and add new energy to his midfield.

A deal does still seem some way away yet and with other clubs interested too, it could be a tight race for the 26-year-old but Bielsa should do everything he can to bring him to Elland Road.

In other Leeds United news, Gary Lineker and Liam Cooper were in agreement on a controversial moment in the 3-2 win against West Ham.
