Leeds United legal action update shared after Everton development

Leeds United are unlikely to seek any legal action against Everton and Nottingham Forest following their points deductions, according to Beren Cross.

It was suggested that the Whites could sue the Premier League duo after Leeds were relegated from the Premier League in 2022-23, with both clubs punished for their respective Profit and Sustainability breaches that occurred that campaign.

Everton and Forest were deemed to have lost more over a three-year period than the £105million threshold, leaving Leeds – as well as Leicester City and Southampton – feeling hard done by after dropping down to the Championship.

When asked whether the club are looking at legal options against Everton and Forest via Leeds Live on Tuesday (4 June), Cross wrote: “Not aware of any ongoing legal matters with those clubs, but these things can run in the background.”

The case will certainly be made that Leeds could still be in the Premier League if not for the Toffees or Forest breaking the financial rules to survive.

The club are now facing their own monetary issues at Elland Road, having missed out on promotion back to the Premier League, and now having to sell key players in order to pay off unpaid transfer fees.

This could see the likes of Crysencio Summerville, Archie Gray, Wilfried Gnonto and Georginio Rutter all depart the club this summer, especially with some names unhappy about spending another season in the Championship.

Of course, it is not an ideal situation for anyone in West Yorkshire, but Daniel Farke will still be expected to secure promotion back to the top tier of English football next season, regardless of the state of the squad.

Fans can continue to argue about Everton and Forest’s impact on Leeds’ relegation last year, but it is a matter of many ifs and buts. Instead of getting caught in the past, the club seem to be looking forward, trying to move on.

In other Leeds United news, Don Goodman has made a promotion prediction if a certain Daniel Farke development plays out.
