Leeds United: Lee Hendrie blown away by what ‘brilliant’ Wilfried Gnonto did in win v Millwall

Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto blew Lee Hendrie away with his “absolutely brilliant” goal in the Whites’ Championship win over Millwall.

Daniel Farke’s side moved top of the Championship with an excellent 2-0 win over Neil Harris’ side at Elland Road on Sunday (17 March) thanks to goals from Gnonto and Dan James either side of half-time.

While James’ close-range strike was a typical poacher’s finish, Gnonto lifted the roof in Elland Road and stunned Sky Sports pundit Hendrie with his left-footed effort that Matija Sarkic with no chance between the posts.

Speaking on Sky Sports Football (17 March, 15:34) he said: “What a finish this is! Have a look at this, the acceleration is absolutely brilliant. He pushes that ball into the space here and it sat up so kindly for him.

“The execution from gnonto is brilliant.”

Will Leeds United be able to keep Wilfried Gnonto beyond the summer transfer window?

Gnonto is enjoying a rollercoaster season at Elland Road. The Italian winger tried to force a transfer away at the start of the season before becoming a bench warmer only to now be one of the Whites’ most important players going forward.

The Italian summed up his recent displays with his showing against Harris’ Millwall side as he was nowhere near his best, before producing a single moment of magic to turn the game completely on its head.

Gnotno did the same for Leeds United against Sheffield Wednesday and it is an excellent habit to have, especially when you’re challenging for a title and every game and every goal means so much in the course of the season.

Hopefully, the 20-year-old will continue to go from strength to strength between now and the end of the season. If can keep this goalscoring run up after the international break, it will massively boost Leeds’ chances of promotion.
