Leeds United lack match winners compared to Crystal Palace- BBC pundit

Crystal Palace came from a goal down to beat Leeds United on Sunday (9 October) and Sam Parkin thinks he knows the reason why.

Pascal Struijk had put the Whites in front after just 10 minutes but they were quickly pegged back by Odsonne Edouard as Eberechi Eze went on to score the winner in the second half.

The inquest into how and why Leeds threw their 1-0 lead away are going to be long and thorough but Parkin, working for the BBC on Sunday’s game, thinks he knows why the Eagles came out on top.

“That’s the difference, Palace have got match winners,” Parkin said. “Olise, Zaha and Eze. They can produce moments out of nothing and Leeds don’t have that at the moment. While you have players like Eze, he is liable to do things like that.”

Work to do

After seven points from three matches to start the season, everything looked rosy for Leeds United and Jesse Marsch but that optimism has quickly dissipated at Elland Road.

Too many times they have found themselves in a good position and gone on to throw it all away and they can’t expect to meet their season’s objectives if that keeps happening.

The closest the Whites have to a match winner is perhaps a fit and firing Patrick Bamford but his injury issues mean he can’t put a run of games together at the moment.

If goals are the problem, then maybe Marsch needs to give the likes of Mateo Joseph and Sonny Perkins a chance given their sensational form for the Under-21s.

Joe Gelhardt and Wilfried Gnonto are also there to be attacking options as is Rodrigo so there should be enough quality at Thorp Arch to get the necessary goals but the Premier League is yet to see it.

In other Leeds United news, the rest of the Whites squad has to start matching this new signing’s ambition to get anywhere as a team.
