Leeds United resurrect interest in Marseille striker Bamba Dieng despite failed move

Leeds United are keeping a close eye on Marseille striker Bamba Dieng with a view to potentially bringing him to Elland Road in January, according to 90min.

The report claims that Marseille have offered Dieng a new contract, with the forward entering the final 18 months of his current deal.

Nevertheless, it seems a move to the Premier League could be calling instead with Leeds United having “resurrected” their interest in the 22-year-old. Are you ready to have your hearts broken twice Whites?

“90min understands that Marseille are set to offer Bamba Dieng a new contract, having entered the final 18 months of his current deal, although a Premier League transfer could be calling instead,” said Graeme Bailey of 90min.

“There are as many as five English clubs looking at Dieng with a view to potentially bringing him to the Premier League before the January window closes.

“Having seen Patrick Bamford again struggle for fitness and form this season, Leeds have resurrected their interest in Dieng, who initially moved to Europe from Diambars in Senegal in 2020.

“But they are not alone in tracking the striker as Crystal Palace, West Ham, Leicester and Everton are all keeping tabs on him.”

Bizarre.

Dieng to Leeds United? Surely the Whites have learned from their past mistakes with this guy, or he’s got some form of dirt on Andrea Radrizanni.

For those who haven’t kept an eagle eye on United transfers in recent years, Dieng nearly made the switch to Elland Road before backing out last minute in the summer window.

The deal was so much done, that Radz even Tweeted it out himself, welcoming Dieng to West Yorkshire in one of the more bizarre transfer stories of recent times.

The player was ready to board a plane in the final hours of the summer transfer window, but alas a last-minute bid from Nice changed things entirely and he never did make that trip to England.

And to make things even stranger, he ended up failing his medical with the Ligue 1 outfit which saw him get absolutely no transfer at all to any of the teams.

In the world of modern football, anything is possible, and Leeds United certainly do need a new forward don’t they?

In other Leeds United news, Ben Brereton Diaz could be on the move in this window after all according to one Sky Sports pundit.
