Leeds United keen to sign Hoffenheim midfielder Florian Grillitsch

Leeds United have joined the race to sign Hoffenheim midfielder Florian Grillitsch, according to a report from The Telegraph.

The 26-year-old defensive midfielder is set to become another “high-profile” player who will be a free agent in the summer.

Naturally, the competition for him is high. Arsenal and Everton want to add him to their ranks, while clubs in Germany and Spain are vying for his signature as well.

Fantastic signing

The Austrian would be a superb signing for the Whites.

First, the club is crying for another defensive midfielder for the past couple of years, but it has been neglected for so long.

The Whites do not have players who can be a like for like replacement (at least in terms of roles being performed) for Kalvin Phillips.

Whenever Phillips gets injured, Leeds seem to struggle to fill his void. Jesse Marsch may have noticed this, and probably that’s why he wants to plug that hole.

He is a vastly experienced midfielder. In the past five seasons, he has established himself as a regular for the club, and has made 33 appearances for his country as well.

Another big quality of Grillitsch is that he can play in defence, and Marsch can use him in both positions depending on the situation.

He would be available for free and Leeds should try to bring him to Elland Road ahead of other suitors. However, he may prefer to stay in Germany, if there’s a good offer from top German clubs.

In other Leeds United news, amid his set-backs Joffy weighed in on the debate about training intensity after Marsch’s comments about Bielsa.
