Leeds United: Jurgen Klopp shares ‘insane’ verdict after watching 3-1 win v Leicester City

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was blown away when watching Leeds United defeat Leicester City.

The Whites defeated the Foxes 3-1 at Elland Road on Friday (23 February) to close the gap on the Championship leaders.

Liverpool will take on Championship side Southampton in the FA Cup fifth round on Wednesday (28 February), having defeated Norwich City in the previous round.

“I love the Championship,” Klopp said in his pre-match press conference, as quoted by BBC Sport. “I watched Leeds v Leicester last week, wow.

“I wasn’t sure how it was nine years ago, but the intensity of football played there is insane. The league is incredible, and difficult – we play a lot of games in the Premier League, in the Championship they play even more.”

Leeds United win over Leicester City blows Jurgen Klopp away

It was a massive win for the Whites under the lights at Elland Road, with Daniel Farke’s men showing their resilience after going a goal down early.

A late show was needed to come back and clinch all three points, with Liverpool manager Klopp clearly impressed by the manner of the win.

Leeds fans and indeed players will be thrilled that a manager of Klopp’s pedigree will have been watching on, particularly given how he had been preparing for a huge League Cup final clash with Chelsea at Wembley.

The Reds ran out 1-0 winners in the capital, with Leeds now facing the Blues in the FA Cup fifth round, also on Wednesday.

The Merseyside outfit may just have done the Whites a massive favour with the extra-time victory, with Mauricio Pochettino’s men potentially downbeat and fatigued after the defeat.

Farke may also be feeling the heat going into the match, with the manager perhaps unsure whether to prioritise the league or an extended run in the FA Cup.
