Leeds United make new Junior Firpo announcement

Leeds United can return to the top of the Championship by avoiding defeat against Millwall at Elland Road on Wednesday.

The Whites dropped to second with just nine games remaining, but Sheffield United and Burnley both could only manage draws on Tuesday, opening the door again.

Daniel Farke’s side enjoyed an unbeaten run which spanned the entirety of December, January and February, but they suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Portsmouth on Sunday.

Leeds have now dropped points in two consecutive games, having also been held to a 1-1 draw with West Brom on 1 March.

Leeds United make Junior Firpo announcement

Junior Firpo has been one of Farke’s standout performers in the Championship this term, notching a notable return of three goals and eight assists in 23 second tier outings.

He has been on fire in recent weeks, scoring against Sheffield United and West Brom, and should have scored at Fratton Park too last time out.

However, he is still yet to put pen to paper on a new contract at Elland Road, meaning that he could leave the club at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, the Whites have announced via X that their left-back has been called up to the Dominican Republic squad for two friendlies with Puerto Rico on 22 March and 26 March respectively.

Leeds need to get back to winning ways against Millwall

The Whites still hold a favourable position in the battle to win promotion from the Championship to the Premier League this term, especially after both Sheffield United and Burnley were held to draws on home turf against Bristol City and West Brom respectively on Tuesday.

But failure to beat Millwall would mark Leeds’ third game in a row without a victory, which would damage any momentum amid a close-fought battle for promotion.

On the other hand, should the Whites emerge victorious against Alex Neil’s side, they will open up a very healthy four-point gap between themselves and third place Burnley, which would help ease fears that they could end up slipping into a play-off spot, as opposed to that of an automatic promotion spot.

Despite their recent struggles against West Brom and Portsmouth, Farke and co should have enough quality to seal victory against a Millwall side who are languishing in mid-table.
