Leeds United: Journo shares what Daniel Farke did to Willy Gnonto v Bristol City
Daniel Farke planted a big kiss on Willy Gnonto’s head after his matchwinning Leeds United display in their 1-0 win against Bristol City on Friday.
The Whites moved up to second in the Championship table as they continued their fine form in 2024 with victory at Bristol City at Ashton Gate (2 February).
Gnonto broke the deadlock early in the second half, firing in from just inside the box, with only his second goal of the season and on his first league start since 29 December.
It is now five wins on the bounce for Farke’s men, the first time they’ve achieved that since 2020 and Smyth shared on his personal X account (2 February) what Farke and Georginio Rutter did to the little Italian after his timely display.
He wrote: “Gnonto dancing in the penalty area after Rutter shoved him forward and directed the fans’ appreciation. Farke plants a big kiss on the Italian’s head.”
Leeds United starting to see the best of Willy Gnonto?
It is safe to say Gnonto hasn’t had the best of campaigns at Leeds United given all the rumours regarding a possible exit in the January transfer window.
The Italy international has struggled to live up to the early hype he made upon his arrival at the club back in September 2022 and Leeds fans will have been forgiven for thinking that he had his eye on a big-money move.
However, since the news emerged that he’d be willing to sign a new deal at Elland Road, Gnonto will certainly have been planning a redemption road map plan and that definitely kicked off against Bristol City on Friday.
Gnonto took his goal brilliantly, especially when his teammates including Crycensio Summerville and Rutter were a bit wasteful in front of goal.
The Italian international took the opportunity like a player who’s got his mojo and confidence back again and with Leeds United now engrossed in a fully-fledged battle for automatic promotion after a five-match winning run, Gnonto’s return to form is absolutely timely.
When he’s on song, Gnonto can be unstoppable and the Leeds United haven’t seen the consistent best of him yet.
Hopefully, now with the January transfer window closed, and his future at Elland Road pretty much intact, Gnonto can lead the club back to the English top-flight promised land again.
It’s no wonder Farke did what he did at full-time because he knows he’s got yet another talent capable of winning points on his own. Long may it continue.
In other Leeds United news, there is hope for the reset of one Whites player as talks continue at Elland Road.
