Leeds United: Jonny Buchan shares what Bradley Johnson told him about ‘demoralising’ Patrick Bamford situation

Jonny Buchan has shared what Bradley Johnson told him about the situation of Patrick Bamford at Leeds United.

Speaking on the Don’t Go To Bed Just Yet podcast on Thursday (30 November, 12:29), the BBC Leeds journalist revealed that the former Whites midfielder said it’s “difficult” for the 30-year-old to try and make an impact off the bench after previously being a starter at Elland Road.

He added that the situation is “demoralising” and that he can feel what the English forward is “going through” as he looks to fight for his place back in the starting lineup under Daniel Farke.

“I was speaking to Bradley Johnson afterwards,” said Buchan. “And he was like, ‘it’s so difficult when you’ve been a first-team starter and you’re not a first-team starter for whatever reason that might be and you’re coming on from the bench and trying to have an impact, trying to do something that makes it so that you’re closer to being a first-team starter’.

“He was saying it’s ‘so difficult and so demoralising and hard to be in that position’, so he says ‘I can feel what he’s going through, I can see what he’s going through’.”

Dig deep

It must be a fairly lonely place for Bamford at the moment after he’s been so used to playing regular minutes and starting most games throughout his career.

The forward does possess undoubted quality, but he’s just struggling to do enough in his brief minutes on the pitch to persuade Farke into handing him more opportunities.

If he keeps getting in the right areas and doesn’t shy away from chances, then his first goal of the season should come before too long.

The Englishman just has to dig deep and keep going as there is an awful lot of the season left to go and the chances will come if he remains focused and shows the right attitude.

Farke knows that Bamford is an important player within the squad and that he could have plenty to offer as the Whites look to fight for promotion back to the Premier League.

In other Leeds United news, a Whites player is surely set for a January exit after the latest Farke snub.
