Leeds United: Joel Piroe brings 'best' out of struggling Georginio Rutter

Joel Piroe has brought “the best” out of Georginio Rutter this season after the Frenchman’s early Leeds struggles, according to Matty Hewitt.

Writing for Leeds Live (6 October), the journalist noted how Piroe helped alleviate goalscoring pressure from Rutter this season, which has helped the £36million man improve his form.

Rutter has been a standout for Daniel Farke’s side this season after his failure to have an impact in the Premier League after his record-breaking Elland Road move from the Bundesliga.

Hewitt wrote: “The young French striker struggled following his move to Elland Road with no goals in 13 appearances last term.

“Whites supporters were apprehensive to say the least about going into the season with just Rutter as their main striker. The arrival of Joel Piroe has helped half that burden, but also bring out the best in the former Hoffenheim forward.”

Chemistry

Leeds’ scouting and recruitment this summer was second to none. None of the new additions have made a bad case for themselves, while the likes of Djed Spence have only struggled with injuries.

Piroe is perhaps the most impactful addition to Farke’s new-look Leeds side, with four goals in his opening Championship games in Yorkshire.

As Hewitt touched upon, Rutter’s position at the club after relegation was interesting. After such an expensive move, many predicted the club to cash in on the Frenchman, even at a loss, if he decided second-division football was not for him.

However, Rutter got his head down and has shown the Elland Road faithful the best he can offer and, per The Athletic (29 September), showed no signs of a lack of commitment and or dedication to the Whites after relegation.

Rutter himself deserved great credit, but Piroe’s skill and ability have helped unlock the 21-year-old this season. In a winning combination up top, Leeds fans may be expecting something exciting this season.

In other Leeds United news, a Bristol City star is set to start on the bench for the Whites’ upcoming clash.
