Leeds United: Jesse Marsch slams Crysencio Summerville after what he saw at Elland Road
Former Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch has slammed Crysencio Summerville, claiming the Elland Road star was terrible in training during his time at the club.
The American insisted that due to the way he sets up his training sessions, players have to perform to a high level to earn both his and their teammates’ respect.
Summerville was named among several other players from clubs Marsch has managed, but the former boss insisted it is important to understand what different players need from training.
Speaking on the Call It What You Want podcast, Marsch was asked: “Have you ever had a guy that just stinks in training? Is there one guy that sticks out for you?”
The former Leeds boss then revealed: “There’s a lot of them. At Leeds, it was Crysencio Summerville. The way that I coach is that the intensity level is so high that you have no choice but to perform every day.
“You have to understand your players, but you also have to push them. It’s less to do with earning my respect and more to do with earning your teammates’ respect in training.”
Crysencio Summerville has stepped up for Leeds United
The talent was always clear to see with Summerville, but during Leeds’ Premier League spell, he was not called upon anywhere near as often as some would have hoped, leading to questions over his long-term future.
However, the Dutchman opted to remain at Elland Road after their relegation despite interest from elsewhere, and the club are now bearing the fruits of his labour.
He has scored 15 goals and provided eight assists in 30 Championship games under Daniel Farke this season, drawing high praise from plenty, and has probably been the most impressive player in the division so far.

Such impressive form has attracted the attention of potential suitors yet again, but if he can drag Leeds to promotion at the first time of asking, there will be no complaints.
It would be safe to assume there has been a step up in the level at which he trains, or perhaps his performances on a matchday outweigh those in training, but either way it is working for Leeds.
In other Leeds United news, the club could be set for part of a £925million windfall.
