Leeds United: Jeff Stelling shares Georginio Rutter verdict after everyone laughed
Jeff Stelling has raved live on air about Georginio Rutter’s impact at Leeds United this season after experiencing a tough start to life in England.
The Frenchman arrived at Elland Road in January 2023 in a club-record deal with Hoffenheim, but the Whites were exiled from the Premier League and he was unable to make the desired impact.
Under Daniel Farke, however, the 21-year-old has been an incredible addition to the Leeds starting XI, boasting six goals and 12 assists in 33 Championship appearances.
Speaking live via talkSPORT on Monday (26 February, 7:27am), Stelling said: “Everybody laughed at Georginio Rutter when he first came to this country, and he couldn’t hit a barn door. But now he looks like a class act.”
Will Georginio Rutter help Leeds United claim promotion back to the Premier League?
Normally playing in behind Patrick Bamford or Joel Piroe, Rutter has been a key part of Leeds’ success this season, leading to a current second-place standing in the Championship.
The Whites also have the chance to progress from the FA Cup Fifth Round when they visit Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on Wednesday 28 February, and some will tip them to claim victory.
Though some have called for Rutter to score more goals this season, the forward, who looks more comfortable as an attacking midfielder, leads the list for assists in the division, joint with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Leif Davis.

The difference between his first campaign in England and this Championship season is day and night, having only made one start in the Premier League.
It may have been a disappointing end to their journey in the top flight, but some fans chose to rule out the Frenchman after recording one assist in his first season. Those same fans will be so thankful that Farke was brought into the club, who believes in and trusts Rutter.
