Leeds United: Jason Cundy drops ‘strange’ verdict after what happened at Elland Road
Jason Cundy finds it “strange” that Leeds United, Leicester City and Ipswich Town are all stuttering in the race for Premier League promotion.
Leeds have taken just one point from their past two matches, most recently being held 0-0 by Sunderland at Elland Road on Tuesday (9 April) in a contentious contest.
Leicester lost 1-0 at Millwall on the same night, while Ipswich then played out a stalemate with Watford the following day.
Giving his verdict on the automatic promotion battle, Cundy said on talkSPORT [12 April, 4:55pm]: “It’s been a strange week for the top three teams.
“Leeds dropped points, nobody saw Leicester being beat by Millwall, then Ipswich didn’t take advantage.
“We’re at the point now where it’s squeaky bum time. Every game appears to be even more important than the next. It’s a brilliant race.”
Leeds United’s remaining Championship fixtures
Focus now switches to Leicester City as they travel to relegation-battling Plymouth Argyle on Friday night (12 April).
Should Leicester win that, which you would fully expect to be the case despite their form, they will be four points ahead of Leeds.
That is a pretty sizeable gap with four games of the campaign remaining, and could make for a shootout between Leeds and Ipswich for second.
The Whites host Blackburn Rovers on Saturday (13 April), before then travelling to Middlesbrough and Queens Park Rangers.

Given the way the campaign has panned out, it seems certain that something will then be riding on the Southampton home game on the final day.
Ipswich, for what it is worth, host Middlesbrough and Huddersfield Town, while travelling to Hull City and Coventry City in their last four games.
One certainty is that there is going to be at least one more twist in this thrilling battle. Let’s just hope that comes at the expense of Ipswich.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites have been told that a permanent deal for Joe Rodon is doable this summer.
