Leeds United January transfer plans outlined after Daniel Farke ‘disappointment’

Daniel Farke was let down by the 49ers towards the back end of the window.

Anton Stach and Jaka Bijol look to be solid additions, and deals were completed for those two and Lucas Perri relatively early in the window.

With the spine of the team now addressed, it seemed logical that the 49ers would address Leeds‘ forward line later on in the window, but most members of the fanbase believe this was not done to a sufficient standard in order to keep United in the top flight.

Daniel Farke himself was on record as saying he wanted one or two more attacking additions, but the German manager received none, and now his uphill battle to keep Leeds in the Premier League just got that much steeper.

Daniel Farke ‘dissapointed’ at lack of investment from 49ers

Although managing director Robbie Evans claimed Leeds had maxed out their PSR, there were plenty of players the club should have sold to give themselves more wiggle room.

Whilst Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Lukas Nmecha and Noah Okafor were all signed, it’s worth bearing in mind that Leeds have also lost Patrick Bamford, Manor Solomon, Mateo Joseph and Largie Ramazani this summer.

According to reports from the Daily Mail on 10 September, Farke was ‘disappointed’ with the end of the window as Leeds missed on the likes of Facundo Buonanotte and Harry Wilson, but was ‘content’ with the signings they had made earlier in the window.

Despite Evans claiming that Leeds want to avoid making signings in January, more incomings at Elland Road are to be expected.

Leeds’ season relies on Calvert-Lewin’s form

It may seem dramatic, but the Whites are effectively relying on Calvert-Lewin to turn the clock back five years to ensure they don’t need to sign another striker in January.

Whilst a striker and a right winger are needed, it is only likely that the 49ers can afford one, so everyone associated with Leeds is crossing their fingers in the hope that Calvert-Lewin can stay fit so Leeds can go and sign another winger.

If both Calvert-Lewin and Nmecha get injured like their past would suggest, a striker would be become Leeds’ priority in January with Joel Piroe evidently not a Premier League level player.
