Leeds United involved in ITV blunder as England beat Andorra at Villa Park

England cruised past Andorra at Villa Park on Saturday evening, but it was a moment surrounding Leeds United that left many scratching their heads.

Typically, the Elland Road faithful and most other football supporters around the country are eagerly counting down the days until they can see their club side back in action.

However, the international break may benefit Leeds before they take on Fulham on 13 September, as it has given time for tensions to cool between the fans and the 49ers after their disappointing deadline day.

However, something that was said on commentary during the England game regarding Leeds’ 0-0 draw with Newcastle would’ve sparked more confusion than anything.

Lee Dixon makes horrendous blunder when referencing Leeds during commentary

Whilst most Leeds supporters may have only tuned in to the England match, they will be delighted to hear that Gabriel Gudmundsson played 90 minutes for Sweden, as all doubts regarding his fitness have been quelled following an injury scare.

Gudmundsson and the rest of Leeds’ backline were solid and defended well as the Whites kept a clean sheet against Newcastle and limited Eddie Howe’s side to minimal chances.

You would not have thought this was the case, however, if you heard Dixon’s comments regarding that game.

With Elliot Anderson being in action for England after an impressive start to the season, Dixon claimed that the 22-year-old “ran the show” in midfield against Leeds.

There are two major problems with the former Arsenal defender’s comments:

Unsurprisingly, Dixon’s comments have been ridiculed on social media as the former England international had a moment to forget.

Leeds need an Elliot Anderson profile in their midfield

With Leeds failing to recruit a creative midfielder like Anderson, this could be one of their downfalls for the remainder of the season.

Ethan Ampadu, Sean Longstaff, Ao Tanaka and Anton Stach all appear to be solid options for Farke, but none of these midfielders provides that creative spark in the final third.

Farke will recognise this, and instead of being a free-flowing and high-scoring outfit like they were in the Championship, Leeds will have more success if they remain compact and keep games tight.

The fact that Leeds are looking to hire a set-piece coach suggests that Farke and Co. are aware that their side may need to play ugly at times to pick up the points required to avoid relegation.
