Leeds United interested in signing Oliver Skipp on loan this deadline day

Leeds United are interested in signing Tottenham midfielder Oliver Skipp on loan this transfer deadline day, according to Football London.

The 22-year-old has struggled for regular game time under Antonio Conte this season, amassing just 195 minutes of Premier League action at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Although the Whites confirmed the signing of Weston McKennie from Juventus on Monday (30 January), they are now one of four Premier League teams looking to take the England Under-21 international on loan for the remainder of the season.

Football London wrote: “Having found minutes hard to come by, Skipp is understood to have been willing to head out on loan for the remainder of the season in order to get his match sharpness back with Crystal Palace, Fulham, Leeds and Bournemouth among the clubs keen to take the England U21 international, who missed the second half of last season with a pelvic injury.”

Needed?

After Leeds bolstered their midfield ranks with the signing of McKennie from Juventus, it was thought that their business for this January was complete.

However, a loan move for Skipp remains an interesting possibility, considering the lack of game time he is currently getting under Conte at Spurs. The question remains, though, would he get much more at Elland Road?

With McKennie and Tyler Adams all but nailed on as Jesse Marsch’s first-choice midfield combination, the 22-year-old would likely be held back for cup encounters, substitute appearances and as an injury replacement.

When considering this factor and looking at teams such as Bournemouth and Crystal Palace, who could probably offer Skipp a far higher chance of playing on a weekly basis, it looks to be a far-fetched move on transfer deadline day.

The Whites have got their business done and dusted this window very quickly, and now Marsch can focus on navigating his highly-talented squad away from the Premier League relegation zone.
